Bordeaux Wine – Wine Tasting
Bordeaux, in the south-west of France, needs little introduction to anyone with an interest in wine. The Bordeaux wine-producing area lies in the Aquitaine region of south-west France and remains the centre of the fine wine world. All its vineyards lie within the département of the Gironde. This vast region of 120,000ha of vineyards (four times the size of Burgundy) is home to 10,000 wine producers and 57 different appellation contrôlées.One of the world’s most prolific wine regions, it also manages to rank among the most famous and prestigious. The secrets of Bordeaux’s wine success (other than magical Bordeaux Blend) are its three trump cards: diversity, quality and quantity. Park your motorhome for the night at a vineyard and you can enjoy wine tasting and many other French delicates from the local area. The majority of Bordeaux wines are the dry, medium-bodied reds that made the region famous.
When to Go to the Bordeaux – Climate
The prime time for Bordeaux travel is between June and August: that’s when most French and other Europeans visit Bordeaux. For fewer crowds and lower rates, come in spring, or autumn. One downfall of coming in fall: starting in September, the wineries start doing their harvests, and some don’t allow visitors. Bordeaux’s climate is usually classified as an oceanic climate, substantial summer rainfall prevents its climate from being classified as Mediterranean. Summers are warm and long because of the influence from the Bay of Biscay. The average seasonal winter temperature is 6.53 °Celsius (43.75 °Fahrenheit), but recent winters have been warmer than this. The average summer seasonal temperature is 19.51 °C (67.12 °F).
